UIL Realignment released

The UIL released their realignment information. Mount Vernon ISD got their wish. They moved down to 2A, but got placed into a fairly tough district. They have been placed in 2A, Division I, District 8. In football, the team will face Daingerfield, Hooks, New Boston, Prairiland, Queen City, and Redwater. For the first time in many years, the school will be in a different district for basketball. They will compete in District 15-2A and will face Rivercrest, Clarksville, Cooper, De Kalb, Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, Paris Chisum, and Prairiland. Athletic Director Mike Alexander is working on schedules for the coming year. See the Feb. 9 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for the rest of this story.

Bridge closed on FM 69 N of I-30

A portion of FM 69 north of I-30 near the Dike Community will be closed through Feb. 10 or 11.  A detour is being established that will re-route FM 69 traffic around the bridge closure via FM 1537, SH 19 and FM 71.

Recent flooding has created unsafe driving conditions in the work zone of the Crosstimber Creek bridge, which is currently under construction.  The public is requested to exercise caution and to obey all traffic control signs and devices while traveling in this area.
