Nov. 16-Dec. 31 - Jingle Bells and Ginger Bread - The Chamber of Commerce, Historical Association and Arts Alliance joined forces to plan a fun kickoff for the holidays in 2012. The displays remain up for viewing through Tuesday, Jan. 1.Â
Windows on the Holidays - The annual unveiling of artfully decorated windows is set for Friday evening, Nov. 16. The project promotes the use of decorations and animations to accent the windows of local businesses throughout Mount Vernon. The windows remain lighted and operational each evening. Call project coordinator Bonnie McAllister at 903-537-4367 or the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce at 903-537-4365 to get involved as either a decorator or craft fashion parts.
Tour of Trees - The Old Depot Museum will be open from 5:30-7 p.m. Dec. 16, and filled with decorated Christmas trees sponsored by the Franklin County Historical Association. Local community groups and children’s organizations are invited to decorate a tree in the exhibit. The varieties of ornaments and themes used will amaze viewers. Attendees can vote for their favorite entries, with cash prizes being awarded. The exhibit will be available for viewing during museum operating hours Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at other times by appointment by calling 903-537-4760.
Gingerbread Designs - The Franklin County Arts Alliance will host a day of creative design for children and the young at heart 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. They will furnish the materials and the artists will complete their gingerbread men designs at the Cultural Arts Center. The cutouts will be used in decorating the CAC for the holidays. That same day, classes from the "A Time to Dance" studio in Mount Vernon will perform at 1 p.m. The center is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and at other times by appointment by calling either 903-537-4034 or Fridays 903-434-9130 through the holiday season. |
