The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce 28th annual CountryFest Stew Cook-off is set for Saturday, Oct. 13. The contest will be located along Houston St. The Chamber is seeking cooking teams to enter the event.
The entry fee of $50 must be turned in no later than 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10. Entry forms are available at the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce office or by calling the Chamber at 903-537-4365.
Participants may be on site at 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 to set up their campsite. Campsites are assigned to registered teams on a first come, first served basis. A minimum of ten gallons of stew must be prepared per entry.
Judging will be conducted for first, second and third place in chicken and beef stew categories. Prizes have been set as follows: first place $500; second place $250; and third place $100. The prizes are the same in both the chicken and beef stew divisions. A $50 U.S. Savings Bond will be given for the most original campsite.
The winning stews will be auctioned to the highest bidder from the CountryFest stage. Stew will be served to the public, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until the stew is all gone.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.
