The annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derbies are set for Saturday, Feb. 9 in the First United Methodist Church's Family Life Center in Mount Vernon. A concession stand will be open during both Derby events.
The local Pack 271 derby will be in the morning. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and racing will begin at 10 a.m.
There will be an afternoon break before the start of action for the White Oak District Pinewood Derby, which encompases Cub Scouts from five counties.
Registration is to begin at 5 p.m. with racing action starting at 6:30 p.m. A registration fee of $5 per entry is set for the district derby to offset the cost of the event.
Renegade Race (older Scouts, parents and cars that do not meet regular Derby standards) will start immediately following the Awards Ceremony. There is a $10 fee to enter the renegade race. The winner will get to keep half of the kitty.
