Year-long exhibit renovation unveiled at ribbon cutting

A ribbon cutting ceremony was performed on Saturday, Oct. 8  to celebrate the re-opening of the Cotton Belt Depot Museum.Mount Vernon’s historic Cotton Belt Depot Museum has undergone a major face lift during the past year and was rolled out for all to see with a ribbon cutting Saturday.

Locals win Titus County Fair titles

Presley McCormick, Kaylee Fite, and Tara Richard  won titles in the Titus County Fair contest.Several Franklin County residents garnered several titles in the inaugural Titus County Fair contest last week.  For a listing of those who won titles, see the October 6 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Awards presented at DRIVEN Film Festival

Dustin Ellis displayed and demonstrated his turn of the century phonograph collection during the film festival.The winning video in the Bankhead Highway Faces and Places video contest was at submitted by the City of Aledo.

Writers organization offering two contests

The Northeast Texas Writers Organization is offering two fall writing contests, one for teen writers and the other for adult nonfiction work, with entries being accepted through Monday, October 31.

Regional Jazz Band concert Saturday

All-Region Jazz Band participantsThe public is invited to attend a free concert by the All-Region IV Jazz Band at 4 p.m. Saturday, September 17 at the Mount Vernon High ISD Auditorium.

Homecoming Dance to feature J. D. Cobb Band

The J.D. Cobb Band will be featured live on stage at the Homecoming Street Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, September 17, on “Smokey Row” (S. Houston St.) in downtown Mount Vernon.
