“Out of the Ordinary” music to be performed locally

Nichols wins Dept. 56 gift certificate

Brian Nichols of Mount Vernon was the winner of the $50 gift certificate for a Dept. 56 Snow Village collectable. The gift certificate was awarded after the close of the exhibit in the Old Depot Museum. See the Jan.14 edition of the Optic-Herald for more details.

Jim Hightower releases new album

Singer-songwriter Jim Hightower, a native of Franklin County, recently released a new album. He writes and records songs about Arkansas and his newest release is More Arkansas Stories in Song, set to be available in mid June. See the Jan. 7 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

Kent displays art at NTCC Whatley Center

The Northeast Texas Community College art department presents “Clayworks” a selection of pieces by Franklin County artist Cindy Kent. The display will be open through Friday, Feb. 5 in the Whatley Center Foyer. See the Jan.14 edition of the Optic-Herald for more details.

Arts Alliance annual meeting next week

The Franklin County Arts Alliance will conduct its annual membership meeting Thursday, Jan. 14. The meeting will get underway at 6:30 p.m. with a pot luck dinner at the Cultural Arts Center (CAC).

Children’s play to be presented

Children’s play to be presentedNate the Great, a new musical based on the first volume of Marjorie Weinman Sharmat’s popular children’s book series about a boy detective, will be performed at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College on Saturday, Jan. 30. Christmas Ball set

A Boot Scootin Cowboy Christmas Ball is set for Saturday, Dec. 19 to benefit the Sulphur River Cowboy Church.  The ball will begin at 6 p.m. at the Old Bogata Gym at 201 2nd NW St. in Bogata.

Mount Vernon Music Piano concert

Piano concertMore than 75 people attended the Classical Christmas Piano Concert presented by Lynda Davidson at the Mount Vernon Music Hall on Saturday, Dec. 5 after the annual Christmas Parade. The event was free to the public.
