Children’s art workshop set

The Franklin County Arts Alliance is sponsoring an arts workshop for children Wednesday through Friday, July 15, 16 and 17. The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to noon those three days. It will be in the Cultural Arts Center on Rusk Street. Cost of the workshop is $10 for supplies. See the June 18 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

Be creative - puppets

Be creative - puppetsMore than 50 children attended the first session of the Franklin County Library’s Summer Reading Program. Each child at the event made a puppet. The reading program will continue each Tuesday through July.

Davis-Seale places in poetry contest

Marcia Davis-Seale of Franklin County placed in the top 20 best poems entered into the 2009 “The Bridge” National Poetry Contest. For more information, see the June 11 edition of the Optic-Herald.

Zooniversity presented tomorrow

Zooniversity will be conducted with lots of Texas critters at 3 p.m. Friday, June 19 in the Century Room as a part of the Franklin County Library’s Summer Enrichment Program.

Plaza Concert series announced

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce announced the return of the Plaza Concert series for 2009. The first of the concert series will be Thursday, June 18. The Cleveland Family Singers will entertain.

Dali, Van Gogh are featured artists at Franklin Co. Library

Arts of the Masters to be displayed

The Friends of the Library and Franklin County Arts Alliance are joining forces to bring a series of classic art pieces to the Franklin County Library. The exhibit starts Monday, June 15. See the June 11 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

Clevelands to provide entertainment on plaza

The Cleveland Family will be featured in the first of three Concerts on the Plaza. The series will kick off tonight, June 18 at 7 p.m. There is no charge, however, donations for the performers will be accepted. Free Blue Bell ice cream will be provided by the sponsoring Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and local retailers. Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavors will be available. Displaying the national flag properly

With Flag Day being celebrated on Sunday, June 14, knowing proper flag etiquette shows honor and respect for our country. For more than 200 years, the Stars and Stripes has flown over our country in times of war and peace.
