Homemakers Extension to meet

The Homemakers Extension Education Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10 at the Senior Citizens Center. Michael Berry, local Agricultural Extension Agent, will present the program on Herbs/Spices.
Guests are welcome. Barbara Lawrence and Joanne Higgins will be hostesses for the event.

Chamber extends nomination deadline

The deadline to submit nominations for Man, Woman and Agriculturalist of the year, as well as Franklin County Hall of Fame has been extended to Monday, March 9.

Mardi Gras event successful

parade for the Mardi Gras celebration. Approximately 75 guests attended the fifth annual Mardi Gras in Mount Vernon sponsored by the Ladies Guild of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. More than $1,100 was earned for the various projects supported by the guild.See the Feb. 26 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

Special anniversary

Special anniversaryVelvin “Tooster” and Mary Bolin will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on March 6. A reception in their honor will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at the First Baptist Church.

Burton designs play set

Brooks Burton, formerly of Mount Vernon, designed the set for Ordinary People, the latest production of Austin College’s Communication Studies Department.  The dramatic production  of  Ordinary People  is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 5-6, and at 2 p.m.  Friday, March 6.
