Energy flowed from jazz

Hale Baskin to be featured at Mount Vernon Music Gala

Hale BaskinHot vocals and the sounds of the big band era will awaken old memories and create new ones at the Mount Vernon Music (MVM) Gala 2013. Hale Baskin and her Jazz Addiction band will be the featured performers for the Gala at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.

Touring storytellers plan visit to town

Peggy and Gene Helmick-RichardsonTwice Upon a Time Storytellers, Gene and Peggy Helmick-Richardson, will be sharing tales twice at the Cultural Arts Center, at 100 Rusk St. in Mount Vernon, on Friday, Aug. 9.

Quilting classes to be offered

The Franklin County Arts Alliance (FCAA) will be the host for a monthly quilting class at the Cultural Arts Center. Michele Chitsey will be instructing these classes on the first Thursday of each month.

Black Tie, Boots and Buckaroos film fest and art demonstration event successful

The contemporary poetry of Michael Whatley, left,  and recorded metal band music served as inspiration for artist Terry McCullough, rightThe Franklin County Arts Alliance’s Black Tie, Boots and Buckaroos event was declared a success with 60 people attending. Approximately $500 was netted for the local alliance programs.
