Shakespeare Club begins year with Shakespeare Strippers

The first meeting of the Shakespeare Club’s new club year was conducted at the home of Mary Lou Mowery.  Juliann Boatner and Carol Ann Scott were co-hostesses.

Servers needed at Harvest on Main

Volunteers can be a part of one of the most unique experiences that has never been done in Northeast Texas by helping to staff the “Farm to Table” style five course culinary dining event “Harvest on Main.”

Local Girl Scout troop forming

A new Girl Scout troop is forming in Mount Vernon. They will have a recruitment and registration night at 6:30 p.m. on September 29 in the Century Room. For more information about the local program, see the September 22 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Fund raiser Saturday for children’s events

The Alamo Mission Museum is conducting a fund raising food sales event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 24 in the parking lot at Prosperity Bank at the southeast corner of the intersection of Hwy. 37 and the South service road to I-30.

CountryFest Stew Contest registration open to all

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce 32nd annual CountryFest Stew Cook-off has been set for Saturday, October 8. The contest will be located on Houston St. again this year.

Library friends to show “Woman in Gold” movie

The Friends of the Franklin County Library will present “Woman in Gold” at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 22. There will be limited seating for this free movie.

“Good Grief” support group to meet

Cypress Basin Hospice in partnership with Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church is sponsoring “Good Grief”, a faith-based support group for those that have suffered the loss of a loved one.

Marynell Bryant to be speaker at Genealogy
