Cinco de Mayo festival Sunday

The local celebration of Cinco de Mayo will be Sunday, May 4 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. The activities for the May 4 celebration will begin with a bilingual mass at 10:30 a.m.

Annual Relay for Life is celebration of living

The seventh annual American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Franklin County is a celebration of cancer survivorship and a fun way to raise vital funds needed to help find a cure for cancer.

Macon homecoming planned

Members of the Macon Baptist Church will be hosts for a homecoming service on Sunday, May 4. The service will begin at 10 a.m. with singing and worship, followed by lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Festival of Joy planned

Moms in Prayer will be celebrating 30 years of praying for children and schools this year. The local Moms in Prayer group will have a Festival of Joy celebration Saturday, May 3. See the April 24 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for details about this event.

Bird enthuasists flock to county for BirdFest events

About 60 people are expected to attend keynote speaker Noppadol Paothong’s address and dinner at the inaugural Prairies and Pineywoods BirdFest weekend, May 2 through 4, in Franklin County.

Stations of the Cross

Members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church led a “Stations of The Cross” event Members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church led a “Stations of The Cross” event on the downtown plaza on Good Friday, April 18 at 5 p.m. Youth members held paintings of each of the 14 stations as others walked by each station to pray and sing.

Philhower is prexy of Shakespeare Club

Linda Philhower was installed as the 2014-15 president of  The Shakespeare Club of Mount Vernon. The  annual installation of officers was conducted at their last meeting for the current club year.

Weatherford reunion well attended
