Weatherford reunion well attended

A reunion for the family of Doc and May Lou Weatherford was Saturday, April 19. A total of 40 family members were served a barbecue dinner, visiting and reminiscing. For a listing of those attending, see the April 24 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Fish fry set at Masonic Lodge

Members of the Mount Vernon Order of the Eastern Star will be hosts for a fish fry Saturday, April 26 at the Masonic Lodge Hall. The fish fry is from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday evening at the lodge hall.

Purley VFD plans Open House

The Purley Volunteer Fire Department has planned an Open House - fund raising event for Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a bounce house for the kids, pictures with the trucks and hot dogs for everyone.

Arbor Day to be celebrated Friday

The seventh annual local Arbor Day celebration will be sponsored by members of the Mount Vernon Main Street Alliance and the City of Mount Vernon staff. The event is set from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 25.

AARP to meet April 22

The Franklin County American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 3703 will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 at the Senior Citizens Center.

The Macon Cemetery Association will have its annual meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the Macon Baptist Church which is located at 7415 FM 21.

Members of the Mount Vernon Order of the Eastern Star will be hosts for a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Mount Vernon Lodge Hall on the I-30 Access Rd.
