Stuffed animal sleep over at the county library

A stuffed animal sleep over has been planned at the Franklin County Library for Monday, May 19. “All stuffed animals, dolls, and action figures are welcome to attend,” Director of Library Services Lisa Lawrence said.

Society plans note burning, program

Members of the Franklin County Genealogical Society will have a note burning celebration on Friday, May 16 at 2 p.m. in front of their building at 110 E. Main St. followed by a reception to honor Kirleen and Calvin Heitt.

Ragball organizers gear up for tourney

Local organizers are gearing up for the Creek of Dreams Ragball Tournament to help fund improvements at Little Creek Park. All tournament games will be at the park Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14. See the May 8 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more information.

Alzheimer Support Group to meet

The Alzheimer Support Group for the Mount Vernon area will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, May. 15 at the Franklin County Library on the square. Caregivers, families, and friends are encouraged to attend the event to share information and learn ways to deal with Alzheimers. For more information, call Gary Nelson at 903-431-5508.

Franklin County behind on rainfall accumulation

Franklin County continues to be well below the norm for rainfall in 2014. During April, the county received 4.34 inches of rain, which brought the year-to-date total to 9.64 inches.

Friendship Cemetery meeting planned

The annual meeting of the Friendship Cemetery Association will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the cemetery. Everyone with an interest in the cemetery is encouraged to attend. See the May 8 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more information.

May’s Second Saturday sure to please the eye and palette

The May 10 Second Saturday will be a busy time around the plaza in downtown Mount Vernon. The day is sure to be filled with good food and things to see and do.

Fairview homecoming well attended

They were able to see a steeple that was installed on the building recently.Approximately 60 people attended the annual homecoming service at Fairview Cemetery on Sunday, May 4.They were able to see a steeple that was installed on the building recently.

Rockhill reunion set third Saturday

Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 17 for the  Rockhill Homecoming and Cemetery Association’s annual meeting. The event will be on the grounds of the cemetery with people gathering around 10 a.m.
