Scouting for Food drive Saturday

The annual “Scouting for Food” door-to-door collection of non-perishable food items in Mount Vernon will be Saturday, November 23. Items collected will be used for the 2013 Christmas for All Food Baskets.

Legion to serve Thanksgiving dinner

Members of the American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary, Post 243 will be hosts for a community Thanksgiving Dinner Friday, November 22.  Serving begins at 6:30 p.m. at the post hall on CR SE4265, south off FM 21.

Morris to be honored at genealogy meeting

Glenn Morris of Mount Vernon will be the spotlight guest of the Franklin County Genealogy Society meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, November 18 as they host a celebration of Veteran’s Day in the Century Room.

Guidry to perform on Alamo stage

Frank Guidry will take the stage at the Alamo Mission Museum at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 16. The performance will be in conjunction with the group’s Trades Days and Redneck Games.

Alzheimer Support Group to meet Tuesday, November 19

Punkin’ Chunkin’ fun Saturday

 Punkin’ Chunkin’  will top the list of activities for Saturday afternoon at the Alamo Mission Trade Day events November 16. Contestants are asked to bring their own pumpkins to throw or use in their device.

Plaza lighting ceremony Monday

A ceremony to formally trip the switch to light up the downtown plaza has been set for Monday, November 18. The ceremony will begin at 5:45 p.m., after sunset.

“Ladies Night Out” planned for Nov. 21

The third annual “Ladies Night Out” shopping extravaganza will be Thursday, November 21 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in downtown Mount Vernon.Tickets to the event are $5 and are available from Our Place restaurant, Saucy Ladies, and the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
