Cold branding offered

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Posse is offering “cold branding” for equine animals. The service will be 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, February 15 in the back of the Sheriff’s Posse Arena.

Tyronda Evans benefit set Feb. 15

A fund raising benefit will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 15, at the Franklin County Airport for Tyronda Evans.  The event will include food, games, a music concert and silent auction. For more details, see the February 6 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Equine vaccination clinic planned

The Franklin 4H group is sponsoring the ninth annual Equine Coggins and Vaccination Clinic Saturday, February 15. The event will be at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Posse Arena from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information, see the January 30 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Mardi Gras Dance tickets available

Tickets are available for the annual Mardi Gras Dance set for Saturday, March 1 from 7-10 p.m. in the Family Life Center at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Dr. Hendricks to speak at Black History event

The Rev. Dr. LaVelle Hendricks will be the featured speaker for the seventh annual Black History Month event. The evening celebrating the Golden Jubilee of the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Scouting anniversary is Saturday

British Lord Robert Baden-Powell founded the Boy Scouts in 1907. It was three years later, February 8, 1910, that the organization spread to the United States of America, where it continues to instill core values in young men and teen girls.

Officers named at annual meeting

Officers were elected for 2014 at the annual meeting of the members of the Alamo Mission Museum last week. Black History Month to be celebrated

February as Black History Month will be celebrated in an event at the Cultural Arts Center at 7 p.m. Friday, February 7 with the Black Onyx Club board as hosts.
