Punkin’ Chunkin’ fun Saturday

 Punkin’ Chunkin’  will top the list of activities for Saturday afternoon at the Alamo Mission Trade Day events November 16. Contestants are asked to bring their own pumpkins to throw or use in their device.

“Ladies Night Out” planned for Nov. 21

The third annual “Ladies Night Out” shopping extravaganza will be Thursday, November 21 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in downtown Mount Vernon.Tickets to the event are $5 and are available from Our Place restaurant, Saucy Ladies, and the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald. Blood drive November 9

The members of the Mount Vernon Church of Christ will be hosts for a Carter Blood Care Blood Drive on Saturday, November 9 at the church at 708 W. Main St. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in honor of Texas Veterans. For more information, see the October 24 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Enter games, booths at Alamo Trade Day

Friends and families are urged to make plans now to enter the Redneck Games at the annual Alamo Trade Day event set for Saturday, November 16. Booth space is still available at the event for $30.

Program to commemorate Kennedy’s assassination

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the 36th president of the United States. The Friends of the Library organization is providing a retrospective of that day and surrounding events in a program to be presented by former Secret Service Agent Mike Howard.

Democrats to meet Monday, October 28

Members of the friends of the Franklin County Democratic Party will have a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, October 28 at Marcy’s Italian Restaurant. Leonard Rockwell, Election Administrator for Titus County, will share information and answer questions about the new voter ID law. Hopkins County historian to be speaker at Monday meeting

“Bricks and Mortar, Wood and Shingles - The history of a Building or Home” is the topic to be covered by historian John A. Sellers. He will be the guest speaker for the Monday, November 4 general members meeting of the Franklin County Historical Association.

Mattingly family reunion October 13

The annual Thomas A. and Paulina Mattingly descendants family reunion was at the Mount Vernon masonic Lodge Hall Sunday, October 13. More than 60 people attended from all over Texas, Alabama, Arkansas and Colorado. For more information, see the October 24 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
