AARP to meet Tuesday, December 17

The Franklin County American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 3703 will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17 at the Senior Citizens Center. An installation of officers will be conducted at the meeting. For more information, see the Dec. 12 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Our Lady of Guadalupe to be celebrated Sunday

The local celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe has been scheduled for Sunday, December 15, with a procession, dancers, religious Mass, food and a program.

The  local Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration has been scheduled Sunday, December 15. A procession through town will be followed by mass at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church

Genealogy meetings scheduled

The Franklin County Genealogy Society executive board meeting is set for 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 13, at the Research Library at 110 E. Main St. The meeting was cancelled last Friday, Dec. 6, because of inclement weather.

The Labutis family was thankful to be reunited.The Labutis family had plenty to be thankful for this holiday season. Not only do they have lots of family and friends, but Army Specialist Kenneth Labutis was able to make a trip home to spend the holiday season with his family.

The Education Club at Texas A&M University – Texarkana at Northeast Texas Community College will be host for a Jingle Bell 5K Paint Run/Walk on Saturday, December 7.

Queen Elizabeth I subject of meeting

Women of Faith simulcast Saturday

Members of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon will be hosts for a Women of Faith Christmas live simulcast on Friday, December 6. The event will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center.
