Moustache, beard growing added to Redneck events

Bragging rights for having the best moustache and beards are at stake for the first time at the 2013 Redneck Games. The fun filled day of events is planned for Saturday, November 16 at the Alamo Mission Museum grounds. See the October 17 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald, for more information.

Costume contest included at Alamo Mission Museum

Parents are urged to plan now to enter their child in the people’s choice costume contest at the sixth annual Halloween Party and Hayride Saturday, October 26. The event will be at the Alamo Mission Museum.

Howard to speak at AARP meeting

Allie Rose, age 7 was the winner of the Kindle Fire HDAllie Rose, age 7 was the winner of the Kindle Fire HD at the Franklin County Library 100th Anniversary celebration. She is the granddaughter of Martha Black.

Wagon train leaving Monday, October 21

The fifth annual Wagon Train Ride for Saltillo will leave on Monday, October 21. The wagon train will travel from Saltillo for five weeks to Monroe, La. and back.

Help-A-Child event Saturday, October 19

The Help-A-Child annual Tractor Pull and Chili Cook-off event in Sulphur Springs will be Saturday, October 19 starting at 9 a.m. at the Bartley Auction Complex on Hwy. 19 south of Sulphur Springs.
