Clean up dates change

The dates for the fall (fourth quarter) clean-up were pushed forward slightly. The free disposal dates will be from October 5 through 12 and not this coming week as printed in the September Optic calendar.

Registration now open for 42 Tournament

Advanced registration for  the 26th annual CountryFest 42 Tournament is now underway at any of the bank’s four locations  no later than 5 p.m. Friday, October 11.

Bond to be guest speaker

Texas Ranger Ken Bond will be the guest speaker at the Franklin County American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 3703 meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 24 at the Senior Citizens Center. Bobcat Fun Day and registration Saturday

Bobcat Fun Day for the White Oak District of BSA is set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 28. Activities will take place outside and behind the First United Methodist Church off Hwy. 37 in Mount Vernon.

Martha Hare to be honored for 80th birthday

The annual See You at the Pole prayer service in Franklin County will be conducted at the Mount Vernon ISD flagpole beginning at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 25.

The deadline for hay samples to be analyzed for the 2013 Mount Vernon / Saltillo Young Farmers Association Hay Show on Saturday, October 5 is Friday, September 20.

Survivors retreat set

The ETMC Breast Care Center is holding a free, one-day retreat for breast cancer survivors on Friday, Oct. 4. The event features Shakha Stephens, a certified laughter yoga teacher and staff chaplain at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
