Summer Reading Program begins Tuesday

The Summer Reading Program (SRP) at the Franklin County Library will begin Tuesday, June 21 and continue each Tuesday through Tuesday, July 26.

Science exhibit on square Monday

A traveling science exhibit  will be at the downtown Mount Vernon plaza from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, June 20. The Trailblazer exhibit will be parked on the downtown plaza and is free and open to the public.

Alzheimer Support Group to meet

The Alzheimer Support Group for the Mount Vernon area will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday,June 16, at the Franklin County Library on the square.

Genealogy to celebrate Juneteenth

The Franklin County Genealogy Society will celebrate Juneteenth on the downtown plaza as their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, June 20.

Beekeepers to meet

The Caddo Trace Beekeepers Association will meet Monday, June 13 at the Agri-Life Building at 1708 Industrial Rd. in Mount Pleasant. A question and answer session starts at 6:30 pm and the meeting at 7:00 pm.

MOM meeting tonight

The MOM (Ministering Our Military) support group will have its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. tonight, Thursday, June 16. The organization serves families of active military personnel in Franklin, Titus, Red River, Morris, and Camp counties.

Grace Lutheran Church to celebrate 25th anniversary

Grace Lutheran Church will celebrate 25 years of ministry with a special service and meal on Sunday, June 12. The service will begin at 4:30 p.m. with music prior and a catered meal following. For more details, see the June 2 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Leave wildlife alone

It is not uncommon during the summer months to see what appears to be abandoned fawn deer or fledgling birds in need. That is when humans need to resist the urge to help, according to wildlife experts.

Clearwater Cemetery meeting planned

The annual meeting of Clearwater Cemetery Association of Franklin County will be Saturday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at the cemetery pavilion located on CR SE4435.
