Barton-Banks reunion conducted

Fifty-four members of the Barton and Banks families met at the Hagansport Community Center on Sunday, April 17, 2016 for a time of fellowship, food and fun. For details from the event and a listing of those present, see the April 28 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Fish fry set at Masonic Lodge Saturday

Members of the Mount Vernon Order of the Eastern Star will be hosts for a fish fry Saturday, April 30 at the Masonic Lodge Hall. The fish fry is from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday evening.

Tranquil Decoration Day set

The Tranquil Cemetery Association will have its annual meeting and decoration at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1 at the cemetery. Anyone interested in the preservation of the cemetery is invited to attend.

Patriot Award

Keeners to celebrate 65 years together

Ruth and Richard “R. D.”  KeenerRichard “R. D.” and Ruth Keener will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at Grace Baptist Church on Yates St. in Mount Vernon.

The annual meeting of the Providence Cemetery Association has been set for Sunday, May 15 at Providence Church.

Bank reports 500 at picnic

A large crowd gathered at the First National Bank’s Spring picnic.Approximately 500 people attended the annual First National Bank Spring Picnic and Open House for the new Cypress Branch  Saturday, April 23. The building is located at FM 115 and FM 3122.

IF: Gathering planned April 30

Registration is now open for the third annual IF: Gathering in Franklin County. This will be a second session offered to accommodate busy schedules. The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Big Pasture Lodge at 3909 FM 115.
