Glasco descendants sought for dedication

The descendants of Jesse Martin Glasco are being sought by members of the Sons and Daughters of Confederate Veterans organization. Organizers hope that living relatives can be documented and will participate in a marker dedication ceremony next month.

Alzheimer Support Group to meet locally

The Alzheimer Support Group for the Mount Vernon area will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 21 at the Franklin County Library on the square.

“Go Rodeo” festival planned for Labor Day Weekend

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce announced that plans were underway for the sixth annual “Go Rodeo” festival. These  activities will include a parade through downtown followed by children’s activities and free chuck wagon beans and cornbread.

Contestants in the 2014 Franklin County Sheriff’s Posse’s queen competition are offering tickets to help pay expenses related to the contest.

Bikers to collect supplies

Several bike enthusiasts have pre-registered for the “Riders Ride for Back to School” event on Saturday, August 9. Local motorcycle enthusiasts are encouraged to participate in the event that will begin at 10 a.m. in the Brookshire’s parking lot.

Tour new website at genealogy meeting

The monthly meeting of the Franklin County Genealogy Society will be at 7 p.m. Monday, August 18. Webmaster Jennifer Snoek-Brown will provide a virtual tour of the new FCGS website.

Pleasant Hill Cemetery Memorial Day well attended

The annual memorial day at Pleasant Hill Cemetery was Sunday, July 12 with a total of 42 people present. Cemetery association president Harold Matthews opened the ceremony under the arbor at 10 a.m.
