Noah, Sophia top baby name list

Noah and Sophia were America’s top baby names for 2013 according to the Social Security Agency. This is the first time for Noah to top the boys list and the first new name at number one since 1960.

Military, family support group meets Thursday, June 19

MOM (Ministering Our Military) Support group will have their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 19. The meeting will be at the Gaddis home at 504 Greenhill Park Ave., Mount Pleasant.

Brown to speak at genealogy meeting

The monthly meeting of the Franklin County Genealogy Society will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 16. Phyllis Brown will be presenting the program. Last year, she presented the first in a series about the kings and queens of England beginning with William the Conqueror.

Liberty Cemetery Decoration Day set

The annual Decoration Day services at the Liberty Cemetery will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 22. The event will begin with a business meeting followed by a program presented by David Dotson of Purley.

Cypress Cemetery Day June 15

The Cypress Cemetery Memorial Day will be  Sunday, June 15, beginning at 10:30 a.m.  The speaker for the event will be Will Ramsay. A covered-dish lunch will follow the meeting.

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer Support Group for the Mount Vernon area will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 19 at the Franklin County Library on the square.

Library to honor interviewed veterans at reception Saturday

A total of 89 videotaped interviews of veterans about their service to the United States are now available for viewing through the Franklin County Library.

Benefit concert planned

A benefit “Gospel Explosion” to defray medical expenses for Tina Chandler Mitchell has been planned for 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 at Meadowpark Baptist Church on Hwy. 37.

Senior meal center BBQ lunch Friday

A special noon barbecue meal and a rummage sale has been set at the Senior Citizen Meal Center Friday, June 13. The meal is being offered as an introduction and fund raising event to help kick-start the center as an independent meal site.
