Sulphur Bluff Cemetery homecoming Sunday

The annual homecoming for the Sulphur Bluff Cemetery will be Sunday, June 29 at the Community Center on F.M. 71. A covered dish luncheon will be served at noon with a short business meeting to follow. See the June 26 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more information.

Noah, Sophia top baby name list

Noah and Sophia were America’s top baby names for 2013 according to the Social Security Agency. This is the first time for Noah to top the boys list and the first new name at number one since 1960.

Miki the Monkey to perform Friday

Miki the Monkey is set to visit the Franklin County Library as a part of the Summer Enrichment Program at 2 p.m. Friday, June 27. The program will be in the gym at the First Baptist Church.

Military, family support group meets Thursday, June 19

MOM (Ministering Our Military) Support group will have their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 19. The meeting will be at the Gaddis home at 504 Greenhill Park Ave., Mount Pleasant.

Annual Turtle Derby planned

The eighth annual Turtle Derby has been set for Saturday, July 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Alamo Mission Museum. A variety of awards will be presented in conjunction with the Turtle Derby events.

Liberty Cemetery Decoration Day set

The annual Decoration Day services at the Liberty Cemetery will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 22. The event will begin with a business meeting followed by a program presented by David Dotson of Purley.

Daughters of the American Revolution install officers
