Glasco descendants sought for dedication

The descendants of Jesse Martin Glasco are being sought by members of the Sons and Daughters of Confederate Veterans organization. Organizers hope that living relatives can be documented and will participate in a marker dedication ceremony next month.

“Go Rodeo” festival planned for Labor Day Weekend

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce announced that plans were underway for the sixth annual “Go Rodeo” festival. These  activities will include a parade through downtown followed by children’s activities and free chuck wagon beans and cornbread.

Mount Vernon Cemetery association meeting Tuesday, August 5

The annual general membership meeting of the Mount Vernon Cemetery Association will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 5 in First National Bank’s Century Room, across from the fountain on Kaufman St. in Mount Vernon.

Bikers to collect supplies

Several bike enthusiasts have pre-registered for the “Riders Ride for Back to School” event on Saturday, August 9. Local motorcycle enthusiasts are encouraged to participate in the event that will begin at 10 a.m. in the Brookshire’s parking lot.

Greenwood Cemetery board to meet August 2

The annual meeting of the Greenwood Cemetery Association will be Saturday, August 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the Greenwood Baptist Church.

Pleasant Hill Cemetery Memorial Day well attended

The annual memorial day at Pleasant Hill Cemetery was Sunday, July 12 with a total of 42 people present. Cemetery association president Harold Matthews opened the ceremony under the arbor at 10 a.m.

Stouts Creek Cemetery Memorial Day set

The 57th annual Stouts Creek Cemetery Memorial Day service will be conducted on Saturday, August 2 at the Saltillo Community Center.

Sales tax holiday is next weekend

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs reminds shoppers they can save money on certain items priced under $100 during the state’s annual sales tax holiday.

Watermelon Day is Friday, Aug. 1

Free ice cold watermelon will be served to the public beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1 on the square in Mount Vernon. The event is sponsored by the Franklin County Library in observance of National Watermelon Day.
