Hagansport to send packages to troops

The Hagansport Community is sending holiday packages to military troops. Donations are currently being collected and the packages will be mailed by Monday, December 15.

Christmas parade and chili cook off registration deadlines approaching

Deadlines to take part in the various activities revolving around the annual Christmas Festival are fast approaching. Booths, parade entires, and cook off participation need to be registered by December 3.

More than $25,000 raised for scholarships

The Rotary Club of Mount Vernon raised more than $25,000 during their banquet and scholarship gala on Saturday, November 15. Proceeds will  benefit the club’s Motivational Scholarship Fund.

Fire department blood drive set

The Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will be the sponsor for a Carter BloodCare blood drive on Saturday, November, 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dejah Arnold is battling cancer, again

Family and friends are asking for prayers and support for Dejah Arnold as she faces cancer for the second time in her young life. Miss Arnold, age 12, was recently diagnosed with a mix of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia(AML).

Foster children in need of angels, too

The Franklin County Child Welfare Board reminds citizens that Franklin County children in foster care should have gifts at Christmas, too. The Board currently has 18 local children in foster care.

Christmas festival registrations continue

Registration for events in conjunction with the 2014 Christmas Festival continue. The theme of  “Jingle Bells and Gingerbread” has been set for the 74th annual parade.

Chili competition sign ups underway

Registration for the sixth annual chili cook off as part of the annual Christmas Festival on Saturday, December 6 in downtown Mount Vernon is underway.The competition will be conducted on Kaufman St, between Main and Scott streets.
