Cowgirl chicks to return to Labor Day Weekend Rodeo

All American Cowgirl Chicks Syke Talsma, Sadie Lynn, Trish Lynn, and Hattie Claire take a break at their trailer during a recent performance.Back by popular demand, the All American Cowgirl Chicks, led by Trish Lynn, Sadie Lynn, Hattie Clair, Cristan Harris, and Mount Vernon’s own Syke Talsma, will once again be the featured performers at annual Franklin County Sheriff’s Posse Labor Day Weekend Rodeo.

Rodeo sign up Monday

Cowboys and cowgirls planning to ride in the 2014 Labor Day Weekend Championship Rodeo must sign up between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, August 25.

Glasco descendants sought for dedication

The descendants of Jesse Martin Glasco are being sought by members of the Sons and Daughters of Confederate Veterans organization. Organizers hope that living relatives can be documented and will participate in a marker dedication ceremony next month.

The Alzheimer Support Group for the Mount Vernon area will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 21 at the Franklin County Library on the square.

“Go Rodeo” festival planned for Labor Day Weekend

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce announced that plans were underway for the sixth annual “Go Rodeo” festival. These  activities will include a parade through downtown followed by children’s activities and free chuck wagon beans and cornbread.
