The Black Onyx Club has set dates for two spring events. The club’s annual catfish fry fund raising event will be Saturday, May 16. Supporters can come by the Brookshire’s Food Store parking lot in Mount Vernon from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for catfish dinners with all the trimmings. The funds raised from the event will go toward this year’s Black Onyx Scholarships to local students. The dinner honoring recipients will be in the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge Hall on Friday, June 5. More details of these two events will be published as they become available. People are urged to make plans now for both dates.
