Members of the second grade classes at Mount Vernon Elementary School released Monarch Butterflies into the wild on Thursday, May 14. Debbie Duenkel places a butterfly on Brooklyn Ortiz nose as Kameron Craig and Zakenya Linwood watch intently. Each year students in the second grade at the school study the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly. During the study, they are taken on a hunt to find eggs to raise the insects. After the insects grow into butterflies, the students release them. This year, they released approximately 80 butterflies. (Optic Photo by Susan Reevesā09)
