Seabourne, Walker take top money at Youth Showcase

Seabourne, Walker take top money at Youth ShowcaseLaura Seabourne of Mount Pleasant and Sara Walker of Hopkins County took top honors at the annual Youth Showcase Concert. The event is sponsored annually by the Mount Vernon Music Association.
Ms. Seabourne was named the recipient of the Mount Vernon Music Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a Northeast Texas area high school student who plans to pursue the advanced study of music. She plays the  harp and has nine years of musical study, starting at age nine.
In her junior year of high school, Ms. Seabourne auditioned successfully for the Interlochen Academy for the Arts.  She was one of five selected to play in a master class with Yolanda Kondanassis. She was recently accepted for undergraduate musical studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston, Mass.
In addition, Ms. Seabourne plays with her three sisters as well as solo at various area functions. She played  Susanna Mildonian’s arrangement of Mateo Albeniz’s Sonate en re for the Youth Showcase concert.
Ms. Walker was selected as the first place winner in the Performance Awards for the Youth Showcase. She will receive $100. A high school junior, Ms. Walker plays clarinet. She performed  Carl Maria Von Weber’s Concertino op. 26 for Clarinet and piano. For more information about all the performers, see the May 27 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
