Calling all boot-scooters! A free street dance will kick off the festivities for the Go Rodeo weekend on Friday, Sept. 3.
“There used to always be a street dance before the rodeo when the arena was near downtown,” Ronny Easterling said. “It is time we returned to that tradition.” The Pure Country Faith Band will provide live music for the event. Their performance will start at 7 p.m. and continue to 10 p.m. or later, depending upon the crowd. The band will set up on the northwest corner of the downtown plaza. The north and east sides of the square will be blocked from traffic.
Members of the Downtown Business Association have provided funding for the band, so there will be no cover charge to attend the event. See the Aug. 19 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more information on the performers in the band.
