Romantic music and art will be combined for an evening of entertainment of entertainment Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Mount Vernon Music Hall.
The performance will be at 7 p.m. rather than the usual matinee.
The title piece of the program, Transfigured Night, is by Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg. The arrangements use lush harmonies and emotional musical color to portray a story of regret, forgiveness and love as told in a famous poem by Richard Dehmel.
Examples of Austrian visual art from the same time period, provided by the Franklin County Arts Alliance, will be on display. The program will feature an opening talk by Pete Jutras, explaining the surrounding social, historical and cultural context of the music being performed.
