Sandra St. John, a local artist, and two art students, Annette Rutherford and Anne Edwards, will share their collection of “plein air” studies done in Italy.
About 100 of the pieces will be exhibited with the opening reception set from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 at the Cultural Arts Center.
The three women attended an art workshop in Venice, Italy for two weeks in September of 2009. The unique collection of plein air studies produced there will delight the artist in visitors.
The dream of painting in Venice belonged to Sandra St. John. She longed to study and paint plein air in the light and shadows of the streets and canals of the city. She wanted to walk and work where such famous artists as Sargent, Whistler, Sickert, and Howard have painted; and to capture in a quick study the rhythm of life, the real and true, in a moment in time was the objective.
