Genealogy to meet Monday

Relay for Life kick off event is Jan. 19

The 2010 Kick-off Rally for the Relay For Life of Franklin County is set for Tuesday, Jan. 19 in the Century Room on Kaufman St. The theme for the 2010 event is “More Happy Birthdays.” See the Jan. 14 edition of the Optic-Herald for more details.

MLK Unity March Monday

The ninth annual “Unity March” in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, Jan. 19. Participants will gather at  9:30 a.m. at the Denton Baptist Church to begin their march to the downtown courthouse. For more information, see the Jan.14 edition of the Optic-Herald.

City’s quarterly clean-up on through Saturday

The City of Mount Vernon’s First Quarter Clean-up will continue through Saturday, Jan. 16. The city will offer access to an open-top dumpster at its maintenance facility on Holbrook St. (Spur 423), between Andrews and Grady streets.
