Terry Duenkel was given the award for Best of Show at the Mount Vernon Cub Scout Pack 271 lighted pumpkin trail event on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Little Creek Park.

Members of the South Franklin Volunteer Fire Department will have a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at Station One located at the intersection of FM 1448 and FM 115. Fish and all the trimmings will be served for a donation. The community is encouraged to attend the event.

Julia Minter, Rae Asay, and Kyla Wilson pose as the three blind mice, and Cooper Wilson was the cheese at the annual Trick-or-Treat Around the Square event on Friday, Oct. 30 in downtown Mount Vernon.

Costume honors in the large business category went to Mission Manor Nursing Home. The group dressed in a 1960s theme and portrayed skits of travelers going to Woodstock and participating in a concert.
