The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will conduct their Merchant’s Halloween Dress-up and Window Decoration contests as well as the 2009 Trick-or-Treat Around the Square on Friday, Oct. 30. For more details, see the special CountryFest section in the Oct. 8 edition of the Optic-Herald.
The quarterly Newcomers and Friends Coffee is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Bankhead Highway Visitors Center (Thruston House).

John Stone, Mary Bolin, and Martin Bell competed in the Misster American Legion Pageant. The Sons of the American Legion raised $3,225 for Durrell Stevens at the benefit conducted at the American Legion Post 243 on Saturday, Oct. 3. The 2009 Saltillo Homecoming will be Sunday, Oct. 11 in the Saltillo School Cafetorium with a program beginning at 10:30 a.m. All former students, residents, and friends are invited to attend with a special invitation to the classes of 1939, 1949, 1959, 1969, 1979, 1989, 1999, and 2009, who will be recognized with a class plaque.
