“Juneteenth” celebrated

“Juneteenth” celebratedMembers of the Black Onyx Club Board of Directors served  food to around 65 persons at their Juneteenth Celebration. The event served as both an educational and scholarship  awareness event. Councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tem Darlene Hatcher spoke to the group on the history   of Juneteenth. The news of  the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring the end of slavery, was brought to Texas June 19, 1865. This was two and a half years after it was signed by President Abraham Lincoln.
