Orvin LaForce of Mount Vernon harvested a one and a half pound new red potato in his garden on Tuesday, June 29. Mr. LaForce gardens on 1/3 of an acre at his residence off FM 115 in Mount Vernon. Aside from potatoes, he grows corn, peas, tomatoes, and okra. He brings his vegetables in an abundance to the Farmer’s Market every Saturday.
