WOW weekend planned in October at First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon is planning a Weekend of Worship, WOW, for Friday through Sunday, Oct. 1-3.
“Not only are we trying to minister to our own congregation, but we are wanting to reach out to the community as well,” Pastor Pepper Puryear said.
The event will begin with a ladies banquet Friday night at 6 p.m. A Mexican Fiesta will be served. Dana Ladd will provide musical entertainment, and Edwina Patterson from Lone Oak will deliver a motivational speech. Tickets to the event are $5 each.
“We have asked members of our congregation to purchase their own ticket and one for a guest,” Pastor Puryear explained. “That way our friends in the community can come free of charge.”
An “outdoor expo” is planned for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendor booths are available. The booths are free of charge, but each vendor is required to donate a door prize valued at least $25. For more information or to sign up for a booth, contact Joe Kuhl at 903-563-0554.
During the expo there will be live music, fishing demonstrations, and Hank the dog trainer will present two shows at 11:30 and 1:30 p.m. A kids carnival will be set up with games and a bounce house. A silent auction will be conducted and hot dogs and snow cones will be available.
A men’s feast will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Brisket, ribs, deer, and other exotic meats will be served with all the trimmings. Jay Lowder will be the speaker for the evening and musical entertainment will be provided. Tickets are $5 and like the ladies banquet, church members will purchase extra tickets for guests.
Mr. Lowder will also speak during the Sunday morning worship time. “Everyone in the community is welcome to come and be blessed by Jay,” Pastor Puryear added.
A “Youth Alive” event will be conducted on Sunday at 4 p.m. Pizza and games will be available for students in grades 7-12. The students can register to win a car, if they are over 16 years of age, or for a Wii or I-pod.
The First Baptist Church of Mount is located at 319 S. Kaufman St., just two blocks south of the downtown square. If you have questions or need more information, please call 903-537-2322.
