Student council members fill backpacks for distribution. The food for the "Backpacks of Love" program at Mount Vernon ISD is now being packed locally.
Previously, food for the program was being packed through the Titus County Cares program. Backpacks of Love is a program in which food is sent home with students in need at the school. Currently 120 students at Mount Vernon ISD receive the backpacks, which contain breakfast items, lunch and dinner items, and snacks to last an entire weekend. For more information, see the Feb. 10 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
