The Shakespeare Club is working toward the restoration of the red rock columns at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery. Jean Ann Marshall is chairperson for the committee to work with the cemetery’s board of directors.
Since the club’s special called summer meeting, Ms. Marshall presented two options for consideration by the board, whose members are pleased to cooperate with the club as a joint project. The Shakespeare Club will pay for the lettered panels, $465, and the cemetery association will pay for the cleaning and sealing of the stone columns and walls, a cost of $410. Contractor Michael Martell recommends waiting until mid-September to start this project due to the excessive heat being experienced.
