Cowboys and cowgirls planning to ride in the 2011 Labor Day weekend Championship Rodeo must sign-up between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday, August 29. The local rodeo is sanctioned by both the United Professional Rodeo Association and the Cowboy Regional Rodeo Association. Contestants must either be members of one of the associations or ride as a “local.” Locals are those living within a 25 mile radius of Mount Vernon, but who are not members of one of the sanctioning associations.See the August 25 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more information.
