Mop up

Mop upHaze and smoke surround Dalton Kitz and Billy Richards with the South Franklin Volunteer Fire Department as they spray the hot spots during mop up efforts at a grass fire on Thursday, Oct. 13 in southern Franklin County. The seven to eight acres burned were at 415 CR SE3430 and belonged to Mark Tapley. Mr. Tapley was issued a citation for a burn ban violation by the Texas Forestry Service investigator on the scene. No structures were harmed and the fire was 100 percent contained. More than a dozen pieces of equipment were on hand to fight the fire. The Texas Forestry Service, U. S. Forestry Service, the South Franklin, North Franklin, Purley, Mount Vernon, and Winnsboro Volunteer Departments responded.
