Two considered for water district board appointment

Two men were introduced to the board as potential candidates for appointment to the Franklin County Water District’s Board of Directors last week.  The men made their availability known at the board’s May 19 meeting. Robert “Bob” McFarlin and Gary Cunningham both meet requirements to hold the position. They are registered voters in the district’s Place One area, which coincides with Franklin County’s Commissioner Pct. 1 borders. For more information, See the May 28 edition of the Optic-Herald.

Donations sought for July 4 fireworks show on the lake

Donations are being sought to fund the annual Independence Day weekend fire works show on Lake Cypress Springs. All donations over the cost of the materials for the show, about $12,000-$15,000, are donated to the South Franklin Volunteer Fire Department. About $10,000 went to the department following last year’s production. See the May 28 edition of the Optic-Herald.

Memorial Day flags

Memorial Day flagsJim Arnold, Bob Chapman, Frank Cardinal, Alton Walker, and Buddy Fife, all members of the  American Legion Post 243, work together to erect approximately 50 flags on the downtown square on Memorial Day in remembrance of local veterans. Driver safety program to be offered

The American Association of Retired Persons recently announced a major change in the Driver Safety Program (DSP) for drivers 50 and older.  This driver safety refresher course will be presented in a single day session of four hours. For more information, see the May 21 edition of the Optic-Herald.

Customer appreciation

Many children took advantage of the flower pot painting activity at the Tom Scott Lumber Yard Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday, May 16. Staff from the store served approximately 300 hot dogs, helped to paint 75 flower pots, and assisted in building 100 tool boxes. The event is conducted each year in May.
