Cinderella’s Closet open

For the second year in a row, Cinderella’s Closet will be open at Mount Vernon High School for girls to receive prom dresses at no cost to their families. The event will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21 in the high school sewing lab. Recycled prom dresses will be displayed for girls to try on and they may chose one dress for prom at no cost. Last year, more than 20 girls from Mount Vernon High School took advantage of the program. Documentary planned on 1959 bus wreck

Seanda Barret Blocker, the daughter of Bill Barret and the late Zelda Tedder Barret, is beginning the process to produce a documentary about the 1959 Mount Vernon school bus wreck.
Mrs. Blocker will be in Mount Vernon on Saturday, April 18 and would like to meet anyone associated with the bus accident. She wants to document memories from the fateful event as she conducts research for her documentary.
She will be in the Century Room on Kaufman St. from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. She will also attend the Eastern Star fish fry at the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge from 5 to 7 p.m.See the April 9 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

An electric crew worked for several hours on Sunday, April 5 to restore power to a residence in the 800 block of south Kaufman St. after this large tree fell and snapped their power line.

2009 Day of prayer captains need to pick up tickets

Above average rainfall reported for March in Franklin County
