The maintenance crew for the City of Mount Vernon installed a new section of sidewalk at the corner of Scott and Kaufman St. in front of the Old Depot Musuem on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Establishing a county bail bond board and amending the budget to provide more than $14,000 in funds to reorganize the sheriff department’s evidence room were requested at the Monday, Feb. 9 meeting of the Franklin County Commissioners Court. The Black History Month program, sponsored by the Black Onyx Club, Inc. is at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Cultural Arts Center. The program is in celebration of February as Black History Month and to commemorate the contributions of black citizens to America.

Members of the Franklin County Commissioners Court questioned Titus County Elections Administrator Leonard Rockwell during their Monday, Feb. 9 meeting about the duties and the costs of operating an election administrators office.

A survey on parks and recreation services for the City of Mount Vernon was mailed Friday, Feb 13.
The survey results will become part of the parks and recreation master plan for the city. It will then be used as a guide to plan for future parks, recreation and open spaces through the city’s Comprehensive Plan.
