New HOME progam applications

Applications are now being accepted for the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs funded HOME program. The program will pay for replacement of up to five  individual’s houses or mobile homes for moderate to low income home owners who live in their houses.

MLK Day Unity March and program planned Monday, Jan. 19

The eighth annual “Unity March” in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will be Monday, Jan. 19. The traditional formal program will be conducted at Mission Manor Nursing Home later in the day.

Jauancosek home destroyed in mid-day fire Sunday

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Juancosek at 329 County Road SE4226 was destroyed by a mid-day fire Sunday, Jan. 11. The couple had moved into the home, a log cabin, the weekend of Jan. 2-4.

School district hires architect, renews Flanagan’s contract

Corgan Associates of Dallas was chosen as the architect that will design the new elementary school for Mount Vernon during the regular Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, Jan. 6 at Mount Vernon High School.

Watch for counterfeit bills locally

Several counterfeit $100 bills were passed in Mount Vernon on Thursday, Jan. 8. According to Mount Vernon Police Sgt. Tyler Banister, individuals have been disguising $5 bills as $100 bills. They are not being discovered in a cursory inspection.
