Future swimming pool should be near school

Any future swimming pool for the community would most likely be located at the Mount Vernon Independent School District campus. Little Creek Park will likely be redesigned to include a splash park area. This was the consensus of members and those present for the Parks and Recreation portion of Mount Vernon’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan Thursday, Dec. 18.

County gets monies to rehab houses

The Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) has announced the award of $300,000 in home repair assistance funds to Franklin County. These funds will help rehabilitate or replace five homes owned and lived in by income eligible residents. Contact Franklin County Judge Jerry Hubbell for more information, or to submit a name for consideration for the program.

Lions fireworks stands open

The annual fund-raiser sale of fireworks by the Cypress Springs Lion’s Club for the New Year is set to begin Friday, Dec. 26 and will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 31.  There are two stands operated by the club. The in-town  stand is located in the Franklin Bank parking lot, at the corner of Hwy. 37 and the south service road to I-30 in Mount Vernon.
