It is beginning to look a lot like the Christmas Holiday is approaching at the post office. Lines at the Mount Vernon Post Office are starting to be longer and the packages are coming in an abundance. The deadlines to mail packages to military personnel are approaching Guidelines and dates for mailing holiday packages are available on the United States Postal Service website


Angel Trees with Christmas wishes have sprouted at various locations around town. Postmaster Monty White, and volunteer coordinators Randy Green and Kelly Alphin display angels on the tree located at the post office. More than 120 families have requested assistance for the holiday season. The deadline to return items is Dec. 12. See the full story in the Dec. 4 edition of the Optic-Herald.
Harriet Fraser, Bailey and Pyper McAllister, and Cooper Kirkman gaze with wonder at one of the animated holiday windows on display at Franklin Bank. The animated windows were unveiled around Mount Vernon on Friday, Nov. 28 and will be on display throughout the holidays.
