Crews completed installation of an above ground aviation fuel tank at the Franklin County Airport Friday, Aug. 29. The new tank, right, sits aside the jet fuel tank, left, that was already on site. Each tank holds more than 8,000 gallons.
Tom Hanks was awarded a contract by the Franklin County Commissioners Court in a move to privatize the airport’s fuel sales. Mr. Hanks’s crews removed the in-ground tank, and it is awaiting final inspection from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on its removal. Automated equipment to provide 24-hour fuel sales at the airport has not yet been installed. The system was struck by lighting in April.
