Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department came to the aid of this adult screech owl. Dispatchers received a call from a service man with Peoples Telephone Cooperative around 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9. The service technician spotted the bird off Hwy. 37 at the entrance to the Winnsboro Hunting and Fishing Club.
Deputy Chris Mars stated that the bird made no effort to defend itself from the rescuers. It was taken to Dr. Cathy Cranmore for treatment. The doctor told officers the bird’s wing was not broken and it is expected to make a full recovery.
