Food bank serving more families during holidaysFrankie Henderson and Thomas Deloney head out with a dolly loaded with boxes of food for families prepared by volunteers at the Community Food Bank. In the first half of December 2008, the Community Food Bank had served the number of families it served in the whole month of November. Through Dec. 15th the food bank has helped 86 heads of households, with 235 family members. They received 3,036 pounds of food. The Community Food Bank is located adjacent to Hilltop Baptist Church at 822 Leftwich, Mount Vernon. During the next two holiday weeks the Community Food Bank will be open from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30. It will be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day.
