The rainfall measured in Mount Vernon through the end of December, was 74.33 inches. It is 7.59 inches greater than the annual record of 66.74 set in 2000. The average year-to-date rainfall amount for December is 47.32 inches.
Only 3.3 inches of rain fell in Franklin County in December. The amount is 0.93 inches below the average for the month at 4.23 inches.
One record low temperature was recorded in December. The temperature of 22° on Dec. 28 was colder than the 24° recorded on the same day in 1996.
Lows were recorded in the 40s for five days, in the 30s for nine days, and in the 20s for 17 days. The average low temperature for the month of December was 31.6°.
No record highs were recorded. Highs were in the 60s for five days, in the 50s for five days, in the 40s for 20 days, and in the 30s for one day. The average high temperature for the month was 50.2°.
