This April, Texans have the chance to save money and conserve energy. The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Texas more than $23 million to establish the Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program.
The program offers a mail-in rebate on new, energy-efficient appliances purchased between April 16 and April 25. The new appliances must be purchased in-store at a Texas retailer and replace an old, still functioning appliance with an eligible Energy Star  appliance. Qualified appliances include refrigerators, dishwashers, air conditioners and water heaters.
“This is a great opportunity for people to help the environment and their pocket books,” Rep. Mark Homer said. “Environmental responsibility and conserving energy benefits everyone in the short and long run. This program makes it realistic for consumers to upgrade to more efficient appliances without taking a hit financially.”  For more details, see the March 18 edition of the Optic-Herald.
