Water district exploring potential for camp hosts

Print

The Franklin County Water District is exploring the potential for having a “Camp Host(s)” program at Lake Cypress Springs.
The idea sprang from programs operated for years by many states and the National Parks Program. “I think it could be beneficial at least for the Walleye Park area,” FCWD General Manager David Weidman said.
Hosts, often retired couples, manage a campground for the camping season in exchange for a free site for their recreational vehicle or travel trailer. Most public campgrounds have special host sites which often, but not always, have full hookups, even when the campground they are managing has fewer or no amenities.
Camp host jobs vary greatly from campground to campground, but almost all require taking fees from campers, cleaning bathrooms, and light grounds maintenance, such as raking fire pits, and blowing leaves. See the March 25 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.
