Complaints from local business owners have spurned the City of Mount Vernon toward enforcement of the two hour parking limit.
The city’s police department personnel are to begin stricter enforcement of the city’s regulation on parking. The two hour parking limit applies to all parking spaces in front of businesses around the downtown square.
There is no two hour limit to the parking time directly around the plaza. However it is illegal anywhere within the city to leave a vehicle parked on the street for 72 continuous hours or more.
The increased patrolling of the square area for parking violations is being done to provide easier access for retail customers to downtown businesses, explained Mount Vernon City Secretary Tina Rose.
